Didn't have my camera with me when we found it, but you can see the size of it in these pictures. Yes, the mushroom cooking in the frying pans and in the bowls is just part of what we brought home, and ONLY one mushroom.

“It is the corruption of truth, the abandonment of the due process law. It is the use of the big lie and the unfounded accusation against any citizen in the name of Americanism or security. It is the rise to power of the demagogue who lives on untruth; it is the spreading of fear and the destruction of faith in every level of society.”
Truman, in 1953, after he left the presidency, speaking of McCarthyism.
"We need to confront honestly the issue of scale. Bigness has a charm and a drama that are seductive, especially to politicians and financiers; but bigness promotes greed, indifference, and damage, and often bigness is not necessary. You may need a large corporation to run an airline or to manufacture cars, but you don't need a large corporation to raise a chicken or a hog. You don't need a large corporation to process local food or local timber and to market it locally." Wendell Berry
Nature is, above all, profligate. Don’t believe them when they tell you how economical and thrifty nature is, whose leaves return to the soil.
Wouldn’t it be cheaper to leave them on the tree in the first place?~ Annie Dillard

ReplyDeleteIt's a pretty cool thing to find. They look more like a huge mass of curly egg noodles than like cauliflower. I have read that they are pretty rare, and found only in deep old growth timber. So large, that we had to go back twice to pack out as much as we did. We only take the top part, because the bottom part is just too hard/time consuming to clean. And if we leave the bottom part, hopefully it will come back next year.
