Elk calves....

Out in the CREP (conservation restoration enhancement project) field this morning....
Two elk calves, just a couple of weeks old.
Elk calves and mommas.
16 elk hanging out: mostly cows, a few spikes and two babies
(Can't capture them all in one picture.)
Unlike deer which are alone with their fawns,
the elk maintain a herd structure which helps protect the calves from predators.

Mid-morning snack
I seldom use the movie feature on my camera.  Still learning it, but one of the cows was a little agitated this morning, so caught her and another in their stiff legged run.
