“It is the corruption of truth, the abandonment of the due process law. It is the use of the big lie and the unfounded accusation against any citizen in the name of Americanism or security. It is the rise to power of the demagogue who lives on untruth; it is the spreading of fear and the destruction of faith in every level of society.”
Truman, in 1953, after he left the presidency, speaking of McCarthyism.
"We need to confront honestly the issue of scale. Bigness has a charm and a drama that are seductive, especially to politicians and financiers; but bigness promotes greed, indifference, and damage, and often bigness is not necessary. You may need a large corporation to run an airline or to manufacture cars, but you don't need a large corporation to raise a chicken or a hog. You don't need a large corporation to process local food or local timber and to market it locally." Wendell Berry
Nature is, above all, profligate. Don’t believe them when they tell you how economical and thrifty nature is, whose leaves return to the soil.
Wouldn’t it be cheaper to leave them on the tree in the first place?~ Annie Dillard
In walking, just walk. In sitting, just sit. Above all, don't wobble. Zen saying
"I don't take pictures as much these days, but that doesn't mean that things don't look as beautiful to me as they once did." George Andrus, 95, photographer, singer and movie maker.
Well.....you could take your camera.....start taking photos......explain to the Judge that you need these for posting on your blog..so that your readers can post comments to help you reach the verdict!! No jury duty for you sister!! Jail?? Where again of course...you would explain that you would most definately need your camera!!
ReplyDeleteSimply explain that the blog article entitled "Guilt Determined" that you intend to write would get a lot more viewers if you had pictures. I'm sure you will be on the jury with camera in hand.
ReplyDeleteI call in every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evening to see if I need to report for jury duty the next day. This is my life for the month of August. My third time to report for jury duty, however, I have never been selected for a trial. Hmmm, not sure what that says about me.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking that posting photos or doing a blog survey to determine guilt or innocence of the defendant might not go over so well.
On a serious note, I do believe that this is important civic duty. And in spite of what feels like disruption to my life, I know that it is important to show up and do the best possible job.
